Harry Walters
Honored in
Distinguished Alumnus Harry N. Walters is the CEO and co-founder of Veterans Coalition, Inc. Other founders were the American Legion, the VFW, Disabled American Veterans, Amvets and The Paralyzed Veterans of America. Mr. Walters also owns his own consulting company, Harry N Walters Consulting Inc.
Mr. Walters graduated from Mariemont High School in 1954 and attended West Point where he played fullback, blocking for Heisman Trophy winner Pete Dawkins. After serving in the U.S. Army for four years, Mr. Walters began a successful career in the paper industry with Kimberly Clark Corp. which culminated in the purchase and later sale of his own paper mill, Potsdam Paper Corp., in 1983.
A long list of high profile public service roles followed, including Assistant Secretary of the Army and Administrator of Veterans Affairs. Both of these positions were appointments by President Ronald Reagan with approval by the U.S. Senate.
Mr. Walters resumed his professional career in 1987 as President and CEO of Great Lakes Carbon Corporation, then CEO of DHC Holdings and a founder of Lafayette Equity Fund. In 2007 he established Veterans Coalition, Inc., a 501(C)3 charitable company, that sponsored a two year study to produce a long term strategy for the Veterans Health Administration. Veterans Coalition has sponsored many efforts in the veteran community since 2007.
