JS Gold & Coin Gives Gift to Mariemont Schools

Jon Saylor, president of JS Gold & Coin, recently established the JS Foundation as a vehicle to give back to the local community.  One of his first actions was to present a check for $500 to the Mariemont School Foundation.  Saylor explained his support for the schools by saying, “We are so fortunate to live in a country that provides funding for good public schools.  But with the recent budget shortfalls (for state and federal funding of schools), it feels like now is the right time to support school initiatives.  Its’s a way of investing in our community’s children and helping the dedicated parents behind those initiatives.”

The JS Foundation is completely funded by JS Gold & Coin and has an overall goal of improving lives.  ”Cincinnati has been really great to our business and this is our way to give back,” stated Saylor.  Last year prior to setting up the JS Foundation, Saylor donated nearly 40% of his profits to community projects and charitable organizations.  As the company’s support for various charities grew, it made sense to start up a separate foundation to provide on-going funding for local non-profit groups.  In addition to the Mariemont School Foundation, Saylor has supported breast cancer research through the Komen Foundation and the Dragonfly Foundation, which gives support to children with leukemia and blood cancer.  Next year his goal is to donate 50% of his company’s profits through the JS Foundation.  Saylor explains his goal this way: “We all have a part to play in making our communities stronger.  Through the JS Foundation we have an opportunity to do everything we can for the community that has been great to us.”

Mariemont School Foundation President Wendy McCracken appreciates Saylor’s support for Mariemont schools.  ”As our schools face a budget crisis due to state and federal spending cuts, more and more parents, alumni and community members are recognizing that maintaining and enhancing the education opportunities for our children will require private financial support.  The Mariemont School Foundation is the best way to channel that support directly to our community schools.”

The Mariemont School Foundation is an independent non-profit organization whose mission is to raise funds to help preserve, enhance and sustain educational excellence throughout the Mariemont School District and its communities.  The Foundation helps fund the gap between what the School District can afford vs. what it needs to sustain educational excellence.  The organization supports a broad range of needs within the School District, including, but not limited to, academic programs, athletics, fine arts, language arts, extracurricular activities, facilities and technology initiatives.
