Foundation Announces New Robert D.Threlkeld Scholarship

The Mariemont School Foundation (MSF) is pleased to announce the formation of the Robert D. Threlkeld Scholarship. The scholarship is being established by Alan Threlkeld in honor of his late brother who was a 1962 graduate of Mariemont High School.

The scholarship awards $5,000 to a Mariemont High School graduating senior who completes 80 hours of community service, maintains a 2.5 or higher GPA and demonstrates financial need to continue his or her education.  Mr. Threlkeld intends to offer the scholarship annually for the next five years.

Wendy McCracken, President of MSF commented, “The Foundation is so pleased that Alan Threlkeld chose to honor his late brother with such a generous gift to a student who values giving back to the community. This significant scholarship will enable a student to continue his or her education and become a leader of tomorrow.”

Alan Threlkeld and his brother Robert both attended Fairfax Elementary School before moving to Mariemont and enrolling in the high school which was then located on Wooster Pike. At the time of his death Robert Threlkeld lived in Carmel, Indiana.  Alan Threlkeld recently met with Mariemont City Schools Superintendent Paul Imhoff and Foundation President Wendy McCracken to tour the schools and to learn about the changes that have taken place in the school district since the 1960s.

The Mariemont School Foundation is an independent non-profit organization whose mission is to raise funds to help preserve, enhance and sustain educational excellence throughout the Mariemont School District and its communities.  The Foundation helps fund the gap between what the School District can afford versus what it needs to sustain educational excellence. The organization supports a broad range of needs within the School District, including, but not limited to, academic programs, athletics, fine arts, language arts, extracurricular activities, facilities and technology initiatives.

A New Look For The Mariemont School Foundation

The Mariemont School Foundation (MSF) has unveiled a new look complete with a new logo, tagline and marketing support plan. “We are excited about the new identity”, Foundation President Wendy McCracken said, adding, “It is part of our renewed energy and commitment to increase the awareness and relevance of The Foundation in the coming years as part of our effort to generate additional revenue in these difficult financial times to support our mission; to sustain educational excellence in our School District.”

James Ferguson, a member of the Board of Trustees and Marketing Committee Chair, led the pro-bono branding initiative. “Our goal was to develop a new clean, fresh look for the organization as well as a clear marketing proposition that successfully educates our target audience about who we are, what we do and how we do it.  We have been a fairly quiet organization in the past with little to no community awareness. We want people to get excited about the great things we are doing in the School District which will motivate them to support our efforts.” Ferguson said.

The new logo and tag line “sustaining educational excellence” is just the start of an ongoing marketing effort, according to Ferguson.  A comprehensive marketing plan has also been developed which includes public relations efforts, direct mail initiatives, social media and local community events.

McCracken Elected President of The Mariemont School Foundation

The Mariemont School Foundation (MSF) has elected Wendy McCracken as its new President.  McCracken has been actively involved in the Mariemont School District for over 15 years in a number of organizations where she has filled many leadership roles. She has also served on the MSF Board of Trustees for the past three years and takes over the leadership position from Karen Herkamp, who recently completed her term as President. “Wendy is an excellent choice for our new President.  She has both the experience and vision to successfully lead this organization.” Herkamp said.

McCracken expressed great appreciation for Herkamp’s contribution to the organization and is excited about the future. “Karen’s passion and commitment to the Foundation and the Mariemont School District have had an extraordinary impact on the effectiveness of this organization. Thanks to her we are poised to step up and meet the growing needs of the District as state funding continues to decline.” McCracken said. She added, “I am excited about the opportunity to work with such a dedicated group of individuals on the Board of Trustees.  We have a lot of work to do to generate additional revenue for the Mariemont School District but I am confident that our communities will support our efforts.”
